CAREER HILL INDEX 2006: SURVEY OF 1.900 PERSONNEL CHEFS IN AUSTRIA SHOWS TRENDS

The most important future competencies of managers

In an annual survey from HILL and CAREER Austria’s top personnel chefs state which competencies they expect, how they choose and what they do for interesting employees.
Here is a short summary of the most important results:

Personality is important.
Which abilities do personalists expect of managers in the future? The answers show us an interesting picture (see image): professional abilities play a rather small role; soft skills however, are central requirements. A surprising result that most probably shows that professional competence and knowledge of methods are simply assumed from a certain level on.

Personnel search without the printing medium has become unthinkable.
How do companies search for their employees? The traditional advertisements in daily newspapers and the specialised press have remained relatively stable over the last three years. They are used by 60% of the questioned people. Even though we live in the age of internet, advertisements in printing media remain the number 1 – the search through internet job markets is even slightly regressive with 52%.

More time is invested in feedback.
What do companies do to keep successful employees? The actions are versatile. The definite increase of employee dialogues is positive. 63% of the participants set regular dates for these meetings.  The increased importance of goal agreements goes hand in hand with this. Furthermore, 59% of the questioned invest in a motivating work climate and a positive corporate culture.
